This is an extraordinary story where the roles of parent and child are reversed. This 7-year-old boy made the biggest sacrifice for his mother, by not only helped saved a life but touched the hearts of millions of people all over the world.
When Chen Xiaotian was only 5-year-s old, he was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor.
Chen’s mother, Zhou Lu, carefully looked after her little boy the best she could. Shortly after, she was diagnosed with a kidney disease.
The two were always together. They slept side-by-side at the hospital for years. Zhou needed kidney dialysis, while Chen was being watched closely.
Despite doctors believing Chen would recover, his cancer returned.
His mother never gave up hope despite the cancer eventually blinding and paralyzing Chen.
Zhou was facing serious issues of her own when her kidney began to weaken, and only a kidney transplant could save her.
At that point, the doctors intervened and spoke with Zhou’s mother. “They told me that my grandson would not survive,” she said, “but his kidneys could help his mother, and also save two other lives as well.”
Zhou refused. “She absolutely didn’t want to hear any talk of that happening.”
When 7-year-old Chen heard his mother’s dilemma, he demanded Zhou take his kidney. “Mom, I want to save your life,” he begged.
After many long discussions, a heartbroken Zhou agreed. Her only consolation, her little boy would live on as a part of her.
Only days later, Chen passed away. The doctors rushed him to the operating room where they would remove his kidneys and liver.
Prior to the operation, the medical team had a moment of silence to honor the little boy.
Chen’s kidney was a perfect match for Zho who eventually made a healthy recovery. Doctors claim it was a miracle.
Chen not only saved Zhou’s life, but his right kidney went to a 21-year-old woman and his liver went to a 27-year-old man. Three lives were saved thanks to this little angel with a big heart.
