Have you ever wondered what would happen if wild animals could truly see themselves in action? In an innovative experiment, photographer Xavier Hubert created a way to make that happen. Traveling to Gabon with his wife and a crew, he placed a shatterproof mirror amidst a thicket of leaves and trees. This allowed Hubert to gauge the unique reactions of different animals individually or in small groups and catch it all on film.
Their reactions range from startling to amusing. Not only are the animals enraptured by what they see, they appear to notice when the mirror is taken away.
