In 1876, John Danner of Canton, Ohio, invented the first ever revolving bookcase. The primary motive for the design was not to create a secret door, but rather to create a functional space for his many books. This idea ignited the imaginations of many creators including, and most notably the writers of Scooby-Doo cartoons.
