Photographer Who Visited Nevada Brothels Tells Of Thriving Business

Sex sells – whether through words in books, pictures in magazines or a brothel business. One photographer found out firsthand.

Marc McAndrews, a man who had never stepped foot inside a strip club before nervously walking into his first Nevada bagnio, was kicked out after he informed one of the escorts he was only visiting for work purposes.

In 2011, McAndrews published his book, ‘Nevada Rose,’ which details all the bracing experiences he had at brothels across 11 counties in America’s only state where prostitution is legal.

The photographs from McAndrew’s 2011 book were recently shared with DailyMail.com. At Sinful’s a ‘two girl party’ costs a whopping $4,000, while a ‘shower party’ costs $1,400 to start

‘This five-year photography project features a diverse range of images of the working girls, and, behind the curtain of sex, the kitchens and cooks, laundry rooms and lounges, timers, managers, and pets,’ the Amazon description reads of the book, also authored by Bill Higgins, with contributions by Patty Kelly.

During his time visiting other brothels, McAndrews stayed in bedrooms, bathrooms and other enclosed rooms with the girls – who are captured confidently posing in photographs shared with DailyMail.com.

The Pennsylvania-born 36-year-old explained how the taboo business continues to boom across the state and attracts people from all walks of life.

McAndrews said many of the women were ‘proud of the light being shown on what they are doing’

‘The legal brothels of Nevada have relationships with community lawmakers, with health care professionals… and there are rules, values, and protections in place,’ he explained while speaking in a 2012 interview with The New York Times.

He said many of the women were excited to be apart of his photography project, as a way to step out from behind their believed curtain of shame.

‘They’re proud of the light being shown on what they are doing. I wasn’t glorifying. I wasn’t demonizing. I was just showing as it was. That was my intent, anyway,’ McAndrews said.

‘I think it is hard for people to imagine a woman owning her own sexuality and being O.K. with something like this.

‘We’re taught and socialized to believe certain things about sexuality and women’s sexuality and prostitution in general,’ he added.

‘Nevada Rose’ received a four out of five-star rating from Amazon buyers.
