He Was Taken Aback When Cashier Gave Him Hard Time Over Helping An Elderly Man…

Some people are absolutely ridiculous. While at a store, I was standing in a long line at one register, so they opened up another, and I first in line. I saw an older gentleman with just a few items and I had half a cart full so I let him in front of me. He was a vet, so I asked where he served he said Vietnam and I shook his hand and thanked him.

Once he paid, I asked the lady to just scan my stuff while I helped him pack his items. Then I paid and asked her to watch my cart so that I could carry his things to the car. She told me “NO” multiple times. So I got pissed and felt helpless, but then a woman behind me said she would watch it till I got back and a couple of people thanked me. But I said I’m not doing it for the praise I’m doing it because when I’m older, I will hope to get the same treatment.

So after I got back the woman asked me how old I was and I said 19, and she again asked me why I would go out of my way for a stranger like that. Well, one because I pride myself on being a good person. Two because we should treat others how you wanted to be treated.

I thanked her and left. But on my way out a woman with a son probably 10 told me that her son learned a lesson from me, and he wanted to thank me. He then told me that his grandpa was always asking for help but he didn’t want to and now he would like to be helpful.

I don’t want to live in the kind of world where we don’t look out for each other. Not just the people that are close to us, but anybody who needs a helping hand. I can’t change the way anybody else thinks, or what they choose to do, but I can do my bit.
