He Adopted His Friend’s Three Children After He Passed In An Auto Accident

I’d like to share the experience I had this weekend… My best friend passed away almost 2 years ago in an auto accident, and I’ve been helping her parents take care of and raise her 3 children…

This weekend, I took her two oldest (7 and 9 years old) to the Outer Banks because they have never been there and I needed to get away from the normal surroundings for a bit. I lived outside of the Outer Banks for a summer a few years ago and fell in love with the peace and serenity of it there.

Well, my friend’s oldest son, 9, had been having a hard time lately with his mommy not being alive. Not being able to talk to her son and so on. I took him out on the beach yesterday morning, just him and I, and had some one on one time talking about his mommy… About her laugh and her smile and how much she loved them.

Through the almost 2 years, I have always told him that all he needs to do is talk to her or write to her and she will give him a sign that she is with him and listening…

So I told him that if he wanted to tell her anything to write it in the sand…

He proceeded to write ‘I love you mommy D’ in the sand… I told him that when she saw it, she would make the wave come up and take it with her. The ocean was so smooth and calm, and the waves were really small, so I wasn’t quite sure that one would reach that high up onto the sand… About 5 minutes after he wrote it, a big wave washed up and took the note away like it wasn’t even there. His face lit up!! ‘Rae, mommy, got my note and took it with her! She has it; she has it!’

I was taking pictures of him writing in the sand, and I posted them on my facebook and added the quote ‘…Oh, my love will fly to you each night on angel’s wings…’

We began to walk back toward the hotel about 10 minutes later, and he found part of a seashell… I thought it was just a typical broken shell until he asked me to put it in my pocket…

I placed it in my hand and looked at it, and the shell is pretty smoothed out on the edges and looks exactly like a wing of an Angel…

I stopped in shock and asked him if he saw what it was… he said he didn’t and so I told him it was an angel wing! he was soooo unbelievably excited, and with tears in his eyes, he looked at me and said ‘Mommy talked to me! She’s here, Rae, she’s here with us!’

A very humbling and profound moment for the both of us. It literally could not have happened at a more beautiful place. Now I have even more love for OBX.
